Andrew Weatherall - Jockey Slut Tribute

Andrew Weatherall.

What more can we say? There are plenty of stories, music, videos,.. about. I can say, his sets had a profound effect on me. Actually, it wasn't just a dj sets. Now I know, it is all his personality and legacy. Sadly, I never heard him live. And there will be no more chances.

But there is a book. Which I am actually reading.

Probably the main thing is how this book had a big impact on me. Without any hyperbolic sayings, Weatherall's story is quite inspirative thing. I mean, everytime I start to read, it's like someone immediately changes my culture blood and cleans it with a fresh one. You can feel the smell of the British 80's, rising era of acid house when Andrew and his companions were youngsters. You soak up their and especially his cultural zeal. Everything has the highest importance, like clothes, tattoos, zines and music of course. Quickly, he became a decisive person.

If I have to emphasize one thing that is truly inspiring, it would be humility and a high spirit, springing from perhaps every story. Definitely, he was a cultural guru of one era. A DJ who didn't push himself anywhere, but there was a shortage of him everywhere. He knowingly never exceed 120 bpm.

The book consists of all his interviews in Jockey Slut, famous British dance music magazine, which ran till 2003. The book also includes oral history, like stories, from his friends and associates. You will find out about his musical projects like Sabres of Paradise or Two Lone Swordsmen. Or you can read many behind the scenes personal stories like dealing with modern technologies.

All proceeds from the book went to charities that were close to Weatherall – Amnesty International, Crisis, Multiple Sclerosis Society and Thrombosis UK.
