Detroit techno has a very important place in my heart. It has taught me not to be afraid to open up musically and is a kind of memento for me.
When I fell in love with dance music at the turn of the millennium, house music cast its spell on me. At the time, I thought there was nothing better. The Czech scene was divided into two camps that formed the strongest currents: the Prague house and the Brno techno. It was mostly in big halls. The pace was lightning fast and most of the visitors did not seem to come for a musical experience. I considered it something inferior. A dull thrashing for the herd.
I held this opinion until the day an older friend opened the doors of this genre to me and I fully realized what techno could sound like. How historically important it is, how many influences and practices it has brought to dance music. I had no choice but to admit how one-sided and limited my view was. There is good and bad music in every genre.
On Carl Craig, I probably don't need to add anything. He is an absolute legend of the Detroit sound and if Kevin Saunderson is referred to as its king, Carl is its prince.
